Our Mission & Vision
The Wesleyan Church has grown out of a revival movement which was devoted to one mission – the spreading of scriptural holiness throughout the land. Our Vision Statement is:
“This church exists for the glory of God in serving all people, everywhere”.
We fulfill our mission through the following means:
- Evangelization – preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that repentance and remission of sins is available to all who would believe, seeking to live in obedience to the Word of God;
- Discipleship – endeavoring to use Ephesians 4 as the pattern for all believers, as God develops the church according to the unique model He has for all persons;
- Worship – that every believer experiences God, both in corporate as well as private life, in reverent devotion and in allegiance pledged to God;
- Fellowship – sharing things in common with others of like faith. Especially as our congregation increases, this need will be addressed both in the larger assembly, and in small groups of persons, living in isolated locations.
5. Service – reaching out and sharing the material benefits of the Gospel with everyone.

Pastor Sherlock Delph
Founding Pastor,
Jamaica-Queens Wesleyan
Sherlock Hugh Sylvanus Delph, Founding Pastor of the Jamaica-Queens Wesleyan Church, was born in Guyana, South America where he led one of the main branches of the Wesleyan Church in the country’s capital, Georgetown and served as Principal of one of the most highly respected technical schools in Guyana. On migrating to the United States of America, he was invited by Reverend Louis Goodman to plant a church on behalf of the Wesleyan denomination, in Queens, New York. On May 29, 1983, the Jamaica-Queens Wesleyan Church came into being. Its first service was held at its new location in Jamaica, Queens, and after this there was no turning back. He successfully planted another Wesleyan Church in South Ozone Park, Queens in September 2011, choosing Pastor Verne Martin, another Pastor from the Wesleyan Church in Guyana to lead. Pastor Delph departed this life to be with the Lord in December 2017 after succumbing to a battle with illness.
We, as a church, continue to celebrate his memory not only because he founded our church, but also because he led his congregation with great distinction for 34 years. He was a man of deep principles with a fear and love for God. Under his guidance and direction our church’s membership expanded significantly and many persons came to know the truth and accepted the Lord as their personal Savior.
